Fun and Modest Swim Suit ideas for the Summer!

Hello Ladies!
It’s that time of year again!  Summer is quickly approaching and I can bet some of you are starting to look for the perfect swim suit. ( I know I am :P )  When purchasing a swim suit, it can be hard to find a modest one while seeing all the other girls trying on their itsy-bitsy bikinis. (See what I did there? No? Okay, I'm going to stop now. :P) Now I personally do not wear bikinis because I don’t believe they show off my true beauty as a Daughter of God. Here is a cool video that shows a few reasons why its better to NOT wear a bikini. I agree with it one hundred percent!

Last summer I went to a Catholic all girls’ summer camp called Avanti. It is focused on teaching girls leadership skills that they will need later in life. I learned so much while also making amazing new friends and growing in my faith. Throughout the week we had different virtue and doctrine classes. On one of the days, we talked about modesty. Now earlier that morning, a lot of the girls in the cabin, including myself, were talking about how we were so excited for the talk since one of our favorite counselors was going to be giving it. What some of the girls didn’t know was that we were also going to be talking about how modesty needs to be applied to our swimming attire and not just our everyday clothes. Just like the video said, a bikini is the exact same thing as wearing just a bra and a pair of  underwear. Everyone nowadays tries to justify wearing a bikini by saying, “Well everyone else is wearing it, why can’t I?” or “Susie Q wears a bikini, and she is my good friend, so therefore it's okay for me to wear one, too.” The problem with this type of mind set is that you tend not think about how your attire will affect other people around you, specifically guys. Men are visual creatures; their eyes are just more drawn to things than women. So you can only imagine how a scandalously dressed women would attract a man in a certain way.
Here is another video that talks a little bit more about this. Another amazing thing that happened at camp was that there was a girl who opened up about how she used to wear a bikini. She said she wasn't completely comfortable in it, but because all her friends wore one she felt the pressure to do the same. Her story was really amazing because once she realized she didn't like bikinis and changed to wearing a tankini and one-piece suits, her friends started to notice. Some of them approached her and asked why she didn't wear a bikini anymore and she told them her how she never felts comfortable and etc. When she finished her story all her friends said that they honestly weren't comfortable in bikinis either! What I really took away from this girl's story was that it's so funny how sometimes girls will dress in a way they see the people around them dressing. All these girls felt the same way about bikinis but were to afraid to wear something that wasn't considered the "norm". So by dressing modestly with our swimwear and not just our everyday clothes, we really can make a difference by being a living and visual light for the world to see.

I personally love all of Jessica’s swim suits. But I have friends who have a little bit of a different style and aren’t huge fans of her work just because her suits don't fit their style. However, where there’s a will, there’s a way. So by looking around you can always find something that does fit your style. It may seem impossible to find a swim suit that isn’t “frumpy and dumpy” as Jessica put it, but with a little time, effort and determination you can find the perfect suit for you.
A few places that I like to look for suits are: Modcloth,Target, Walmart, Macy's, J Crew and Jessica Rey. Here are a few examples of the amazing suits that they have at these stores:

What I hope that all of you can take away from this is that everyone is afraid to wear something that isn't considered "cool". The fear of being rejected or ridiculed is, I think, one of the greatest fears of all girls in our society today. However, sometimes being "different" is a good thing. You'll be surprised how many people actually share the same opinions and beliefs as you but are to scared to say something. So don't be afraid to be "different". Show other people you CAN be cool and super stylish without wearing a bikini. Like I said before, be a living and visual light for the whole world to see. Maybe by wearing a one-piece instead of a bikini, you might  be an inspiration to other people without even talking to them. Through your example you can plant a seed in their hearts that they will remember for forever. You're a Daughter of God, don't forget that. You are a Daughter of The King, thus making you a Princess. So why not dress like one? :) You can truly make a difference around you just by what you wear. ;)
